One of the things I love about my Victory Cross Country Tour is the amount of wind protection the large windshield, fairing, and lowers provide. The windshield is, unfortunately, much too tall for my 5 foot 6 inch height.
I began looking for a replacement windshield after getting caught in a few rainstorms. I couldn’t see over the top of the stock windshield. This caused my view of the road in front of me to become near zero once my windshield and helmet face shield were covered with rain drops.
The Windvest also has a very competitive price. I’ve always admired the looks of the Klock Werks windshield, but others were stating they were getting better wind protection from the Windvest due to the way the flip travels all the way across the full width of the windshield. I can’t compare the two since I personally have never ridden with the Klock Werks windshield, but the Windvest is over $100.00 cheaper if price makes a difference to you as it did to me.
Installation of the Windvest is simple and only takes a few minutes. The Victory XCT comes with large extended touring brackets that hold the tall windshield on using six bolts. I removed the six bolts, touring brackets, and the stock windshield. I then installed the Windvest windshield with the four standard x-country mounting bolts. The Windvest comes with rubber washers and installation instructions and arrived well packaged and damage free.
The Windvest looks great! It is perfect for the hot summer months when I want some air. But, the rest of the year, I really want more wind protection than the Windvest provides. I think I’ll keep the Windvest for the hot months, but I’m still searching for the perfect windshield.
I am now thinking very hard about purchasing a 14 inch standard non-flip 7Jurock. It would provide better wind protection, but would be just short enough to see over the top when I get caught in the rain. In the mean time I have purchased some Rain-X Plastic Water Repellent. I’ll give you un update once I have given it a try.
